The cars are scored out of 10 and these are some of the things I consider when ranking the vehicle interiors. Generally I try to keep the car prices below a million rand because I feel that if I pay that much for a car, the interior better be pretty darn spectacular anyway.
Phakxx's Scorecard Breakdown
Total Points : 10
Ergonomics: 4 Points
The ease of interaction with the vehicle's interior controls is an important consideration which manufacturers spend millions trying to get right. For example, you need a selfie-stick to open the passenger side cubby hole when driving a Hummer. And in some cars window buttons are placed everywhere else but the at the doors. Also not cool and frankly dangerous is having to constantly take your eyes of the road while changing songs, radio stations and turning on the air conditioning. So ergonomics carry the highest number of points.
Standard vs Optional Equipment: 3 Points
These are things that no vehicle should do with out: bluetooth connectivity (even better would be Apple's CarPlay or Google's Android Auto), a number of input options such as a USB and auxiliary input, automatic everything (especially windows and lights). Navigation should also be standard (why would I pay R15K for navigation software I have for free in my smart phone- huh?). Points are subtracted for every non-standard item.
My opinion: 3 Points
This is my own subjective view of the interior. How it makes me feel? Is it sexy? Is it beautiful and sumptuous like the Merc C-Class or minimalistic and chic like the brand new Audi Q7? Is it drab? Is it easy to clean and maintain? All these are considerations.
Let's get to it....
